Growing Healthy People
Growing Healthy People (GHP) is an Illinois Not-for-Profit organization born out of the desire to grow healthy food using sustainable methods, to provide educational opportunities on growing food while preserving our planet and to create jobs in local food production.
Work with Veterans
Inspired by the award-winning documentary Ground Operations: Battlefields to Farmfields , GHP joined a national movement to grow farmers as well as food. According to the USDA, American needs a million new farmers over the next ten years as our farmers age out. Veterans, especially those returning from combat, can provide the answer to “Who is going to grow our food?”
Our primary focus is to offer both work and healing opportunities to veterans by introducing them to sustainable agriculture to grow food for themselves, their families and for local food pantries. America needs one million new farmers over the next ten years. Veterans have the skills and the drive to become the next providers of our food – in our county and in our country.
Growing Healthy People was formed in 2013 and is building our program from the “roots” up. Our visions is to have programs related to:
- Farms and Jobs
- Sustainable Living
- Feeding the hungry
